Electric Guest – “This Head I Hold”

Thanks to PJ for playing this tune for me…it’s got that throwback vintage sound that seems to be everywhere these days. Seems like I should be tired of the sound, except I’m not! It’s fun, it makes you move, it’s SOULFUL. I will say, I heard the song before I saw this video and I was laughing at how unassuming these kids look! That sound coming from a bunch of young white guys is surprising to say the least.

Beyonce – “Countdown”

I simply cannot stop listening to this song and watching this brilliant video. When someone borrows artistic ideas from what’s already been done, there’s always an outcry. And with this video, Beyonce is doing that times ten. There’s everything from the very obvious Audrey Hepburn nod to the not so obvious borrowing of famous Belgian choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. Here’s my two cents – If a contemporary artist has the ability to draw A LOT of attention to something that’s  otherwise overlooked, that’s a good thing for everyone. If not for this Beyonce video (and my sister’s email, thanks J!), I never would have been aware of Rosas Danst Rosas, a piece of choreograpy that really shaped the dance world in 1983. Check out this AMAZING piece below and see Beyonce’s video for “Countdown”…a song I cannot get enough of.
