My Top 10 Albums: 2012

There was a ton of great music this year, but as I mentioned before, I wasn’t as adventurous musically as I have been in the past. I decided to keep the list short, and these 10 albums were clear standouts. I can think of some other artists/songs/albums that did catch my attention this year, so I’ll talk close calls later this week…

1. Dr. Dog – Be the Void

2. Alabama Shakes – Boys and Girls

3. Bahamas – Barchords

4. Mumford & Sons – Babel

5. Delta Spirit – Delta Spirit

6. The Tallest Man On Earth – There’s No Leaving Now

7. John Mayer – Born and Raised

8. JD McPherson – Signs and Signifiers

9. Fiona Apple – The Idler Wheel…

10. Ben Folds Five – The Sound of the Life of the Mind

Happy New Year!

So, lately I’ve been stuck musically. I haven’t really been seeking out new music or really opening myself up to it and I suppose I could use being busy as an excuse. I’ve been basically listening to the same few albums again and again. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing! These albums have some seriously stunning tracks on them. Here are a few that maybe I’ve posted before, but I cannot get enough of:

Bahamas – “Lost In The Light”
This gorgeous song floors me every time. New video:

The Tallest Man On Earth – “Wind and Walls”
Every track on There’s No Leaving Now is quite beautiful:

Feist – “Graveyard”
Can’t believe the beginning of this tune and the end are actually in the same song:

Delta Spirit – “Ransom Man”
Sometimes when you listen to an album long enough, the songs you used to skip become your favorites:

Wilco – “One Sunday Morning”
I’ve found that this 12-minute final track on The Whole Love is perfect for an up island drive:

LYRICS: The Tallest Man On Earth

This new tune from The Tallest Man On Earth is available for FREE download HERE, and I’m really digging it.  Kristian Matsson’s new album, There’s No Leaving Now comes out June 12th and I’m so excited for this one. All of Matsson’s lyrics really move me in this track, but the end seems to strike me the most:

“…when the leaving is hard but you go now
and you feel what you drag ‘cross the floor
because something with these trails are just different
since they shook the earth in 1904

…and some will say it’s not even healthy
but body is young and mind is sure
that something is so right when(?) you’re thinking
cause they shook the earth in 1904″

NEW Music Preview

Wow, unfortunately it’s been almost 5 months since my last New Music Preview… I guess it really was a nutty summer! But fall is here and I’m getting pumped about all the great new tunes!

Just 6 months after the release of his second full-length album, Swedish singer/songwriter Kristian Mattson (aka The Tallest Man On Earth) is poised to release a stripped down EP that gives me chills. Elizabeth and the Catapult’s sophomore effort, The Other Side Of Zero just came out and they call it “more abrasive” than their playful debut, Taller Children. Sunshine and surf still come to mind when listening to Donavon Frankenreiter’s latest release, Glow, and you MUST hear the debut album from a band that’s simply exploding onto the music scene – West London’s Mumford & Sons.

Artists featured in this NEW Music Preview:
