NEW: Robert Plant

“Rainbow”

I’m completely floored by this track. Robert Plant has managed to maintain what makes him legendary while sounding very contemporary. This could be a Radiohead track… you hear it? Man, it’s so killer. I’m psyched to hear more from the album, Lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar, out in August.

SONG: Patty Griffin

“Ohio”

I wouldn’t normally call myself a Patty Griffin fan, but this new single has me in its grips. She sings here with Robert Plant and the harmonies and music are almost spell-binding. Apparently the song is about slaves escaping during the time of the Underground Railroad. Patty Griffin’s new album American Kid comes out May 7th.

Alison Krauss & Union Station – “Paper Airplane”

This is the title track of the forthcoming album from Alison Krauss & Union Station… it comes out mid April. I was just telling a new friend what little I know about Alison Krauss. I’m one of those youngsters who first got wind of her when she put out the amazing, Raising Sand album with Robert Plant. As late as I am to the party, I’m loving what I hear from Krauss… and I’m excited to learn so much more about her long and successful career (26 Grammys, WOW!). This tune is gorgeous, and so aptly titled for the mood and sound of it, don’t you think?

Robert Plant – “Angel Dance”

Robert Plant lived and breathed the incredible dynamics of the music scene in the 60s and he says at this point in his career, he wants to bring some of that into his music today. On covering, interpreting and rearranging classic tunes with his new album, Band Of Joy, he says he can only do them “Plant-like”. Here’s his incredible “Plant-like” cover of the Los Lobos tune, “Angel Dance”:
