It’s always fun for me to decide what music to play while entertaining guests…and it’s especially nice when someone compliments the choices. I felt like this particular list went over very well and created a perfect mood for dinner with friends.
(We listened to the full albums, but the playlist below is a song from each so you can get a taste!)
Paul Simon – Graceland
Norah Jones – Little Broken Hearts
Rodriguez – Searching for Sugar Man Soundtrack
Ryan Adams – Ashes and Fire
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – I Learned The Hard Way
Regina Spektor – What We Saw From The Cheap Seats
I pretty much love anything Regina Spektor does, and her 2012 album has a wide range of solid songs on it…just check out how different the these two tracks are (both have gorgeous music videos!):
Jesse Harris – Sub Rosa
This album has a wonderfully relaxing vibe to it…I think Jesse Harris has a Donovan/Nick Drake feel:
I’m sure I’ll think of more, but this, along with my Top Ten list, pretty much wraps up favorite music of 2012! Thanks so much for reading and listening…here’s to a lot more great music in 2013!
I wrote about this tune back in August, but I think it deserves a re-post. Today, me and my co-worker Barbara cranked the song in the studio and marveled at the SPACE within the track among the beautiful drums, the subtle harmonies (Norah Jones sings those), and the carefree sound of the guitar. It’s just so PLEASANT sounding! Barbara said the entire new album from Jesse Harris has this vibe… check out Sub Rosa if you like this track.
Breaking up. Norah Jones explores all the anger, sadness and introspection that comes along with this painful experience on her new album Little Broken Hearts. I immediately loved the SOUND of this album (produced by Danger Mouse) but with closer attention paid to the lyrics, I’m bowled over by the emotional content on these 12 tracks. “Good Morning” is the perfect way to begin the story:
“Good Morning My thoughts on leaving are back on the table I thought you should know And maybe powerful actions, or powerful feelings would keep me from going
One more week until Norah Jones releases her new album, The Fall. A few weeks back, I posted a snippet of the single “Chasing Pirates” which I’ve been absolutely loving. Well, today I was delighted to see that NPR is previewing the entire record on their website. CLICK HERE.
The album is great. It’s got a very CHILL feeling to it, like most of her music…but it’s definitely a bit different from the old Norah Jones. She’s exploring some new age/pop territory without altering the smokey, warm vocals that are so distinctly her.
Here’s the new video for the “Chasing Pirates” single…it may be taken down soon:
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new Norah Jones Single, “Chasing Pirates”. Her album The Fall is due out November 17th. Can’t wait to hear more! Here’s a clip of the single:
