So, lately I’ve been stuck musically. I haven’t really been seeking out new music or really opening myself up to it and I suppose I could use being busy as an excuse. I’ve been basically listening to the same few albums again and again. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing! These albums have some seriously stunning tracks on them. Here are a few that maybe I’ve posted before, but I cannot get enough of:

Bahamas – “Lost In The Light”
This gorgeous song floors me every time. New video:

The Tallest Man On Earth – “Wind and Walls”
Every track on There’s No Leaving Now is quite beautiful:

Feist – “Graveyard”
Can’t believe the beginning of this tune and the end are actually in the same song:

Delta Spirit – “Ransom Man”
Sometimes when you listen to an album long enough, the songs you used to skip become your favorites:

Wilco – “One Sunday Morning”
I’ve found that this 12-minute final track on The Whole Love is perfect for an up island drive:

SONG: Adele

This is the new single from Adele…the theme song for the new Bond movie! Recently a listener attempted to convince me that Adele will end up a “one hit wonder” but I just don’t see it that way. Time will tell…

SONG: Delta Spirit

“Ransom Man”

Seems like Delta Spirit will provide the soundtrack to my summer this year…seeing as I cannot stop switching back and forth between their new self-titled album and 2010’s History From Below. This song is from the latter, and it’s one that snuck up on me. The constant drone in the background might’ve had me tuning out at first, but now I’m held captive. The delicate finger-picked melody, echoing background vocals and final build fit together to create something special within this tune:

mvyradio HOT SEAT

Last minute, my boss asked me to sit in the HOT SEAT on Monday night, which means I play an hour of whatever I want on mvyradio at 9PM. I really had no idea what I’d do for a theme, but I said yes, and a day or two later I came up with a pretty fun idea.

I’m a huge fan of movies, and especially in the winter I watch them pretty frequently (a movie a day lately). I have a small collection of my favorites that I watch again and again…a BIG part of what makes me love them – the soundtrack ! Good music placed at a particular point in a film is SO memorable. I could probably do a 2 hour show with this theme, but I’ve got to choose! Here are a few I know I’ll include:

MOVIE: The Royal Tenenbaums
SONG: Nico – “These Days”

MOVIE: The Life Aquatic
SONG: David Bowie – “Life On Mars”

MOVIE: Garden State
SONG: The Shins – “New Slang”

Tune in on Monday at 9PM for my HOT SEAT on mvyradio.com
