Martin Sexton – “Sugarcoating”

In lieu of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 tomorrow, Martin Sexton released a video for this tune, the title track of his latest album. There’s something to be said about using a catchy tune and humor to get people’s attention…to get the listener to think about serious issues. I appreciate that type of songwriting and I think Martin does it brilliantly here:

Ryan Montbleau Band – “Fix Your Wings” [LIVE]

I think it’s safe to say that Ryan Montbleau Band’s 3rd studio album will be the best yet, with songs spanning across many different genres but with heartfelt, thought-provoking lyrics throughout.  Produced by Martin Sexton, Heavy on the Vine comes out Tuesday and these live videos have given us a great preview of the new material.  Here’s “Fix Your Wings”, shot and edited by a college friend of mine who really knows what he’s doing:

Martin Sexton – “Failure”

Thanks to everyone who came out to our Friends Of mvyradio event tonight. The East Chop Beach Club was beautiful setting for the concert, Herring Run Kitchens made delicious food, and Martin Sexton was amazing as always. He performed this song tonight… it’s one of my favorites:

NEW Music: Martin Sexton

Today Martin Sexton releases his 9th album, Sugarcoating. With this record, he’s backed by a full band… a stark contrast to his last live/solo release. There’s a diverse range of tunes on Sugarcoating… from the catchy, soulful single, “Livin’ The Life” to the slow, somber, “Always Got Away”. There’s the Beatlesque sound of “Stick Around”, the playful, funky, “Boom Sh Boom”, and the country twang of “Long Haul”.

It’s so nice to have a little of everything from an artist like Sexton. This album makes me think about life, love, and family. It evokes a lot of emotions, makes me smile, and gets me tapping my toe and singing along. If you’ve been a fan for years, you’ll be happy with this new collection of tunes and if you’ve never heard his music, this is a great sampling of what Martin Sexton does.

Sexton is definitely one of the most incredible performers I’ve ever seen. He’s about to head out on the road with the Ryan Montbleau Band backing him, so check out the dates and catch them live. I’m psyched for a few of the local shows which are rapidly approaching:

Friday, April 16th

Saturday, April 17th
