These were my favorites of a really solid year of music! It was tough to pick this top 10.
Vampire Weekend in the #1 spot is likely no surprise to you if you know me or read this blog. To me, there was no competition there. If you haven’t heard Modern Vampires of the City, try sitting down for a listen sometime, with an open mind. It saddens me that hype or reputation can sometimes turn people off of a band altogether, without a single note of the music being heard.

Best Of 2013: Lucius
Wildewoman
This NYC band came onto my radar this past summer, when I saw them perform live at Boston Calling. I have to say, I was completely blown away. I quickly learned the group was on the verge of releasing their DEBUT album… keep your eye on Lucius, they are one of the best new acts out there.

“Tempest”
With the release of their debut album, Wildewoman, the New York City-based band Lucius has also released this new music video. It’s quite strange at times…there’s a lot going on! But the music is what I really want you to check out – this band is one of my favorite recent musical discoveries. For me, the harmonies and unique blend of dreamlike electronic sounds really set them apart from a lot of other new acts. If you can check them out LIVE, definitely do it! They’ll be in Boston on December 5th at the Sinclair with You Won’t (another one of my favorites!).

“Turn It Around”
I was lucky enough to make it to one day of Boston Calling this past weekend, where I saw two of my favorite bands who I’ve wanted to see live for quite some time – Local Natives and Vampire Weekend. They both delivered amazing performances!
I also happened to see a set from the band Lucius and I’m so thrilled I did because I totally fell in love! I’m psyched to catch wind of this Brooklyn-based group so early on…their debut album, Wildewoman comes out on October 15th and they’ve got a slew of tour dates in small rooms lined up for the fall. SEE THEM LIVE if they’re coming to your area – TOUR DATES HERE. I can guess they won’t be playing small rooms for long!
