“A New Life”

I’ve really been digging this new single from Jim James (of My Morning Jacket). His solo album, Regions Of Light and Sound Of God is coming out February 5th and I’m very excited to hear more (especially with that album title!).

New Multitudes – “Hoping Machine”

New Multitudes is an album put out by Jay Farrar, Will Johnson, Anders Parker, and Yim Yames. These guys had been friends for a while and it was inevitable that they’d collaborate at some point. And here it is, an album of songs written and recorded using archived Woody Guthrie lyrics. The scope of what Guthrie wrote in his lifetime is becoming clear to me, and I’m so delighted we can experience these words after his death through other artists. This is the 4th or 5th Woody Guthrie project I’ve heard about in the past few years! This particular song from New Multitudes is really haunting and beautiful –

My Morning Jacket – “Golden”

Tonight we featured a live performance from Yim Yames at Newport Folk 2010 for our mvy LIVE. I really enjoyed hearing this set, since I didn’t catch much of it when I was working backstage at Newport… and you can hear it too, along with a bunch of other Newport performances, in our Archives. His rendition of “Golden” reminded me how much I love that song. Here’s MMJ doing it live on Letterman:
