On My Mind/In My Heart

Tonight I’ll feature this new album from Boston-based soul singer Jesse Dee as our Album Of The Week on mvyradio. You can “tune in” at 9PM to hear the album from start to finish! After years of touring and recording independently, Jesse has signed onto Alligator Records for this release and I’m excited about this new partnership! Alligator Records works with country, blues and soul artists that we love at mvyradio and Jesse Dee fits right in.

The simplest way I can sum up this album is by saying it’s filled with HORNS and HOOKS. And if you’re not familiar with Jesse Dee’s voice, it’s one of the most powerful and soulful voices you’ve likely heard in a while. Jesse’s songwriting is filled with hopeful and encouraging lyrics. This is a soul album that lifts the spirits and makes you smile. I think the title track of the album really conveys that:

LIVE & LOCAL: Sea Monsters

Last Sunday night I made it out to Precinct in Somerville to see the Sea Monsters, a band of rotating Boston area musicians led by Christian McNeill. The group has been playing Sunday nights in Somerville for almost 4 years now. These days you’ll usually find McNeill and Jesse Dee on guitars and vocals, joined by Mike Miksis on bass, Lyle Brewer on lead guitar, Tom Arey on drums and John and Scott Aruda on tenor sax and trumpet respectively. Beyond that, there are different special guests each week, and you’ll just have to show up to find out who!

Last week, Cilla Bonnie played bass and Chris Anzalone was on drums. Jesse Ciarmataro (aka QWILL) played keys and sang while Sarah Seminski was on lead vocals as well as harmonies with McNeill. Tonight, the one and only Sarah Borges will join Sea Monsters, for what’s sure to be a rocking night!

For a $5 cover, the musical melting pot that is the Sea Monsters will treat you to a night full of spontaneity in an intimate setting. If you’re a music lover in general and better yet, if you like to support the Boston music scene, Sunday nights at Precinct are not to be missed!
