There couldn’t have been a better day for this session to be posted (for New Englanders, that is). As the wind blows and the snow whips around outside my window, I close my eyes and listen to this gorgeous session from Sam Beam… which includes 3 songs from the forthcoming album and what do you know, my favorite Iron & Wine song tossed in there too – “Naked As We Came”. Hope it warms you on this frigid, stormy day…
It seems inevitable that artists transform their sound again and again… especially considering the current state of music and technology. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Iron & Wine’s new album, Kiss Each Other Clean, and as I’m hearing the few tracks that have been released, I’m in awe of the transformation of Sam Beam’s sound. With 2007’s, The Shepherd’s Dog, we saw a bit of a shift in the mood and a thickening of sound… and now this new album sounds quite experimental and electronic. I am very excited to hear it from start to finish. Kiss Each Other Clean will be released on January 25th.
Hear’s one track, “Biting Your Tail”:
I get giddy watching this promotional video… how about that artwork??:
I’m very much looking forward to some music that’s coming out in early 2011. As always, Amos Lee sings with an abundance of SOUL on his new single, “Windows are Rolled Down”, and I can’t wait to hear more off his forthcoming album, Mission Bell. Adele is a few years older and she’s still as fierce as ever… the followup to her debut album, 19 comes out in February and it’s fittingly called 21. I might be most excited about the long-awaited studio album from Sam Beam and Iron & Wine titled Kiss Each Other Clean; what I’ve heard of it is amazing! And we’ll have to wait until April for the rest, but the always incredible Paul Simon has given us a taste of his forthcoming album with a single about Christmas that’s not really a Christmas song.
I was thrilled to hear that the new album from Iron & Wine, Kiss Each Other Clean will come out in early 2011. While I’m excitedly awaiting that release, I’m listening to a lot of Iron & Wine lately. Here’s a great track from the 2007 album, The Shepherd’s Dog. I LOVE the flamenco dancing in this video!
Again this past weekend I was listening to an old mix CD I made for my Dad… he said, “This must bring back memories, huh?”. He’s so right, it really does. Even listening to songs I had in heavy rotation just a few years ago transports me right back to that time. I remember how stoked I was about the Iron & Wine album, The Shepherd’s Dog that came out in 2007. It was #3 on my “Best Of 2007” list…which was actually my first ever post on this here blog! I’m stoked to hear some new Iron & Wine material that’s heading our way in early 2011… until then, here’s my favorite track from The Shepherd’s Dog – “Innocent Bones” (I can vividly remember being in the production studio at WERS while our production director edited the swear so we could play this one on-air):
Tonight on mvy, we featured a beautiful live set recorded last summer at Newport Folk Festival 50. As I edited together the performance from Iron & Wine, I remembered how much I love the song, “Naked As We Came”. It’s one of the handful of tunes I forced myself to learn on guitar. Sam Beam created a masterpiece with this song…the melody, the lyrics, the subtle harmonies…and he directed a stellar video for it too:
