Song Of The Day

M. Ward – “The First Time I Ran Away”

This song is so beautiful…and I expected nothing less from M. Ward. His new solo album, A Wasteland Companion, will be out on April 10th and it’s one of a handful of albums I’m REALLY looking forward to this year. While Matt Ward has done great work with both Monsters Of Folk and She & Him the past few years, I’m a big fan of his solo stuff. His last album of solo material, Hold Time, was one of my favorite albums of 2007.

Best Of ’09: M. Ward

M. Ward – Hold Time

No exaggeration…from the first strum of “For Beginners” (track #1), M. Ward had me sucked into his album Hold Time. This is one of those albums that comes out early in the year (February) but cannot (and should not) be forgotten when ‘Best Of’ lists are made in December. I remember reading an article where the interviewer asked M. Ward how he would label himself…”People have had a lot of fun labeling you—You’re a modern folk interpreter. You’re an acoustic retro whisperer. Label yourself.” And he answered simply, “Guitarist.”
