My Top 10 Albums: 2012

There was a ton of great music this year, but as I mentioned before, I wasn’t as adventurous musically as I have been in the past. I decided to keep the list short, and these 10 albums were clear standouts. I can think of some other artists/songs/albums that did catch my attention this year, so I’ll talk close calls later this week…

1. Dr. Dog – Be the Void

2. Alabama Shakes – Boys and Girls

3. Bahamas – Barchords

4. Mumford & Sons – Babel

5. Delta Spirit – Delta Spirit

6. The Tallest Man On Earth – There’s No Leaving Now

7. John Mayer – Born and Raised

8. JD McPherson – Signs and Signifiers

9. Fiona Apple – The Idler Wheel…

10. Ben Folds Five – The Sound of the Life of the Mind

Happy New Year!

SONG: Fiona Apple

Fiona Apple has now put 3 tracks from her forthcoming album on SoundCloud…and I’m so so so excited to hear the whole thing. The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do is due out June 19th. Yes – that’s the album name! Love the dark piano on this track, and as always, her words are just incredible:

SONG: Fiona Apple

“Every Single Night”

I thought it was pretty bad ass that Fiona Apple went with a 23-word album title for her long anticipated release, but I’d expect nothing less from her! The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do comes out on June 19th and I know I’m just one of many who cannot wait to hear more. This track is very dynamic and different… love the lyrics too… “The rib is the shell and the heart is a yoke and I just made us a meal for us both to choke on”. Wowza.

“I just wanna be everything”
