My Hot Seat of covers and collaborations is up in the archives at mvyradio.com if you missed it. Meanwhile, I keep stumbling upon more great cover songs. Here’s NYC-based artist Amber Rubarth covering R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion”:
After featuring a few covers on my Hot Seat this week, I’ve been getting a lot of great recommendations… like this live cover of the classic tune, “Summertime” done by Boston-based artist Samantha Farrell:
I’m really digging this album of covers from Marc Cohn. Every song was released in the year 1970. He does the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie”, Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed”, Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic”, and J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight” (released by Clapton in 1970), among others. These are really great tunes covered by a familiar voice… it’s very listenable. The album comes out on Tuesday.
In this video, Cohn and his producer John Leventhal discuss Simon & Garfunkel’s “Only Living Boy In New York” and you’ll hear a bit of Cohn’s version.
