“Hundreds Of Ways”
Have you heard this new Conor Oberst single?? I was soooo surprised at the tone of the track… upbeat and almost Caribbean-sounding, complete with heavy drum beats and horns. I love it! Oberst will release a solo album in May… I can’t wait to hear more!
Bright Eyes – “Shell Games”
I must admit, I’ve never really liked Bright Eyes much and when I first saw this single was out, I didn’t even bother to listen to it. But I’m glad I did since I actually really like the tune… and I’d also like to be able to keep an open mind with any new material, despite previous notions. I still prefer Conor Oberst with The Mystic Valley Band, but I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the new Bright Eyes album, The People’s Key, when it comes out in February.
Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band – “Nikorette”
I’m a huge lover of lyrics, but there are certain songs where it takes me a long time to hear the words. Conor Oberst is a poet, and he continues to write wonderful tunes on his latest album, Outer South. At first, I loved the single “Nikorette” for the catchy melody and tight guitar work… lately, I’m really digging the beautiful lyrics:
“But everyone I see I think I’ve known before,
from the opera house to the grocery store.
My love for them I cannot ignore,
like a human voice in a quiet morgue…
…Will you talk me down if I get upset?
Be a cool washcloth to my fevered head.
Cause I don’t want to dream if it won’t come true,
I don’t want to dream if it don’t come true.
If there’s something in me, then I guess it’s in you
If there’s somewhere in me, then I know it’s in you.
It’s all just a fix,
just one little hit…
you’re holding in.”
