“A Sky Full Of Stars”
There are a lot of people out there who like to hate on Coldplay. I suppose it happens with any band that gets THAT big. I personally dig almost everything I hear from the band. I don’t listen to Coldplay for the lyrics but more for the epic sonic landscape they create with their tunes. Here’s the second single from their new album Ghost Stories:
Coldplay’s sixth album, Ghost Stories, is slated to come out mid May. I’ve really been digging the single and I can’t wait to hear more. This tune strikes me as sexy and romantic all at once:
Coldplay – “Charlie Brown” [LIVE]
If someone asked me, I wouldn’t list this band as one of my favorites. But there IS something about their music that I really enjoy. I’ve found the more I hear a single from their latest album Mylo Xyloto, the more I enjoy it. And hearing live renditions (like this one) also give me a new appreciation of the tune. As a fan of musical theater, I was really intrigued when I heard Chris Martin and his band were aiming for a theatrical feel for this concept album. While I think Viva La Vida was a stronger album as a whole, I’m still diggin’ the feel of this loose, orchestral pop sound.
Coldplay – “Major Minus”
This is another new single from Coldplay…very different from “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”…it’s much more subtle and kinda hypnotic. I’m diggin’ it!
Coldplay – “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”
It seems like there’s a bit of a fuss whenever Coldplay does anything…especially when they produce new music. Well, here’s a new single and I will say – I really like it. It’s got a great beat, a nice thick texture to it, some clever lyrics…overall it’s catchy and feel good. Sometimes I wish that people with preconceived notions about certain bands could erase those from their mind and THEN listen. But I guess that’s just wishful thinking!
Coldplay – “Christmas Lights”
Around this time of year, I’m not a huge Christmas music type of person, but I do appreciate a tasteful cover of a classic tune or a smile inducing original like this particular Coldplay song. Plus the video is just fun to watch! I think my friend J said it best when she said, “It’s like Moulin Rouge!”
Coldplay – “Clocks”
OK… so this “Lyric Of The Week” feature hasn’t really been a weekly thing. I hope to remedy that! At first I thought nothing was really jumping out at me, but now I’m sure that I just need to take a moment, breathe and listen more closely! I’ve heard this song from Coldplay a million times… I’ve even sang along to these words. But today, I had a zoned in moment with this song and these words. They hit me and I was like, “Whoa… what a line!”:
“Come out upon my seas, curse missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure, or am I part of the disease?”
PS22 Chorus – Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”
Wow, have you seen this? This group of fifth graders at a NYC public school cover all sorts of popular songs… from Lady GaGa to Regina Spektor to Crowded House. Here they are doing a fabulous rendition of Coldplay’s smash hit “Viva La Vida”. The harmonies are so right on! And just look at how they ham it up! This is awesome:
I had a really sweet morning… I’ve been filling in on the AM shift at mvy these past three days. It’s very tiring to get up at 4:30ish, but loads of fun to have all sorts of features to do…plus the news every half hour and of course, the large number of listeners. As I got into my car, a mix CD in the player started right at the beginning of “Strawberry Swing” from Coldplay’s Viva La Vida. This is one of my favorite tracks on the album, and it had the perfect tone for driving down the dark, deserted road. As the song played, I saw a man on his bicycle…the same man I saw at the same time the morning before, passing me at the EXACT same place (one of those deja vu moments that makes your eyes widen). Then I saw the moon, glowing orange through the trees. As I drove over the bridge to Vineyard Haven, I watched the (almost full) orange moon slowly dip down behind the tree line, with “Strawberry Swing” complimenting the scene beautifully.
After my shift, I checked out Coldplay’s video for the tune…WOW! This is definitely one of the most creative and most beautifully done videos I’ve seen in a while. I wish I could embed it right into my post, but believe me when I say it’s worth clicking the link below to check it out.
