SONG: 311

“Beautiful Disaster”

I had a delightful visit with my sisters this weekend. They both came to the island and yesterday we enjoyed one of the most perfect beach days of the summer. At one point as we were listening to tunes on a little speaker at the beach, we all agreed that music from 311 is ideal for summertime and beach lounging. It’s got an upbeat, pulsing energy and is somehow incredibly relaxing all at once. 311 was my favorite band for many years, and they’ll always have a special place in my heart…and on my beach playlist :))

Lyric Of The Week

311 – “Grassroots”

I think I’ve said before, this band will always have a special place in my heart and lately I’ve been revisiting their tunes while working out at the gym. Overall, their music is FUN… it gets me pumped up and dancing (or running, ha)… and occasionally their lyrics are pretty inspiring. FEEL GOOD MUSIC. That’s the bottom line.

“Challenge comes and goes and there will be another
I say bring it on
The roots that grow underground are as big as the tree
That you see if not it will fall down”

Lyric Of The Week

311 – “Speakeasy”

I’ll always have a special place in my heart for 311. I went through a long, obsessive phase with them… listening to ONLY their music, especially in the summertime. Their latest album, Uplifter (2009) really didn’t thrill me, but I did like some songs on Don’t Tread On Me (2005), especially “Speakeasy”. It’s catchy and fun (of course) and it has such a sweet, romantic sentiment to it:

“I’ve searched for something to compare you to,
I’ve thought long and hard for a simile true.
Now I’m suddenly aware…
end the quest – you’re beyond compare.”

Song Of The Day

311 – “Homebrew”

Happy March 11th to all of you 311 fans! I went through a 311 phase right around the end of high school/beginning of college. During the summer, they were all I’d listen to.  If you know me or normally check in with pH balanced, you know that I love FEEL GOOD music. 311 is feel good in a nut shell. I had a blast heading to their shows with friends and dancing all groovy to the old tunes as well as the new. Unfortunately, I haven’t liked what I’ve heard from their 9th studio album, Uplifter which came out last year, but SO many of 311’s songs have a special place in my heart. Here’s one of my favorites from Grassroots:
