Yea, I know, this is a really obvious one. I’ve gotta say though, despite the insane amount of radio play and mainstream success this album saw, it cannot be denied that it’s REALLY GOOD. And you can’t say that about a lot of “popular” music these days. I love Adele and all the she stands for. I remember hearing this album for the first time and immediately being floored by “Rumor Has It”…these days I’m a big fan of “Set Fire To The Rain” and “I’ll Be Waiting”. Like you, I could probably do without hearing “Rolling In The Deep” or “Someone Like You” for a solid year…but it’s still great to hear a truly talented person’s songs getting overplayed.
With Grammy nominations revealed, my only prediction is that Adele will be taking home Album Of the Year for 21. I remember how angry I got over the summer when some dude at a bar told me Adele would be a one hit wonder. I thought it made him sound just plain stupid, considering she’s already had more than one hit. While “Rolling in the Deep” (up for Record and Song of the year) was a SMASH hit, Adele also nailed it with so many other tracks on her latest album. The tune “I’ll Be Waiting” is one of my favorites. To drive home how damn talented she is, here’s a live version:
I’ve been diving into the new Adele album and this tune never fails to give me goosebumps. She performed it last night on Jimmy Kimmel and I think it’s even more incredible to see/hear her in a live setting. Almost seems unreal how amazing her voice is. But there she is… singing those notes. It’s for real! Can’t wait until I’m in the room instead of watching a video!
I’m very much looking forward to some music that’s coming out in early 2011. As always, Amos Lee sings with an abundance of SOUL on his new single, “Windows are Rolled Down”, and I can’t wait to hear more off his forthcoming album, Mission Bell. Adele is a few years older and she’s still as fierce as ever… the followup to her debut album, 19 comes out in February and it’s fittingly called 21. I might be most excited about the long-awaited studio album from Sam Beam and Iron & Wine titled Kiss Each Other Clean; what I’ve heard of it is amazing! And we’ll have to wait until April for the rest, but the always incredible Paul Simon has given us a taste of his forthcoming album with a single about Christmas that’s not really a Christmas song.
