Tom Rush – “Child’s Song”
This song wasn’t written by Tom Rush, but he does a damn great version of it. I was editing our mvy LIVE last week and I pretty much got sucked into listening to all 2 and 1/2 hours of his recent performance at the Narrows Center for the Arts. This was one of the last songs he played and I was very familiar with it, because my father used to sing it to me when I was young. It’s such a SAD, SAD song… but so beautiful…
“Goodbye momma goodbye to you too pa
Little sister you’ll have to wait a while to come along
Goodbye to this house and all it’s memories
We just got too old to say we’re wrong
Got to make one last trip to my bedroom
Guess I’ll have to leave some stuff behind
It’s funny how the same old crooked pictures
Just don’t seem the same to me tonight”
Since you seem to enjoy a wide variety of music, thought you might enjoy Mimi and Richard Farina. Followed Tom Rush around way back when, from NH and VT, Boston, to the Rockies. Was a great time for singer-songwriters, when music was intimate, in coffee houses and the like. Tom’s voice hasn’t changed much, nor has his personality!
Ooo, I like! Beautiful harmonies… I’ll have to play them for my Dad :) Thanks!
