So the Grammy nominees were announced today. When February rolls around, anyone who doesn’t listen to Top 40 may cringe at the fact that acts like Eminem, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber will be taking home Grammy awards – the highest honor in the music industry- but I’m happy to at least see some much deserved nominations.
The Suburbs from Arcade Fire is in the running for Album of the Year! Ray LaMontagne’s “Beg Steal Or Borrow” is up for Song of the Year and God Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise is up for Best Contemporary Folk Album. I’m stoked to see Mumford and Sons and Florence and the Machine both up for Best New Artist, but I worry that Justin Bieber might walk away with that one. Big kudos to Trombone Shorty (up for Best Contemporary Jazz Album) and Mavis Staples (up for Best Americana Album).
There are plenty of great acts up for awards in the Rock categories – Robert Plant, Neil Young, The Black Keys, Jeff Beck, Tom Petty, Muse, and Pearl Jam. I’m not even sure who I want to win Best Alternative Album… the nominees are Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Band Of Horses, Broken Bells and Vampire Weekend!
These are just some of the fantastic artists who I’m psyched to see on the nominee list, and although I try to take these big award shows with a grain of salt I will definitely be tuning in on February 14th for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.
