It’s been way too long since I’ve done one of these… here are a few things that have caught my ear recently: Death Cab for Cutie is coming out with Codes and Keys at the end of May and I think the single sounds quite solid. Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros has gone solo with a new album simply called, Alexander and the sound is surprisingly fresh. Three brothers from Texas – Los Lonely Boys – are out with a new album called Rockpango, and while we’ll have to wait until May 17th to hear the entire new album from Ben Harper, we’ve got a taste with the rocking single – “Rock ‘N Roll is Free.”
Tonight, Death Cab For Cutie is trying something pretty cool that hasn’t really been done before… which is tough to say in this day and age. They’re shooting a live, scripted, one-take music video for all the world to see on the website, YouAreATourist.com. “You Are A Tourist” is the first single from their forthcoming album, Codes and Keys (out May 30th).
Even if you don’t like Death Cab’s music, I think this will be something very interesting to watch… both for the art and risk factors and also because this is something that would’ve been unheard of not so long ago, when technology wasn’t so advanced. I also find it a little humorous that anyone visiting the site just to see the video, Death Cab haters included, truly will be a tourist… just their to take in the scene.
Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to watch, but you definitely should… 7PM est TONIGHT, at YouAreATourist.com.
