If you’ve heard any of Brett Dennen’s recordings, I’m sure you got a sense of how FUN his music is right away…but seeing him live is a real treat. There’s something very FREE about him up on stage. I’m usually someone who’s really turned off by vocals that aren’t spot on (off key stuff bothers me), but with Dennen, it’s almost like he’s just dancing around and through the tune with his voice. Add that to his sweet demeanor and he’s got the audience in the palm of his hand. See him live when you can (maybe in Fall River on November 23rd!), but until then, check out his live Daytrotter session that was posted today.
I’ve been making what I call “block” mixes for my Dad for a few years now. I pick two songs from every artist I decide to include and put them one after another…hence the term “block”. It’s usually newer stuff and things I’ve been listening to non stop. I called this one “Block Mix 2011″ but then realized that the Delta Spirit album came out in 2010. Oh well, I suppose it’s just what I’ve really been digging this year.
Tune in tonight as I take you to the beach…with music that has a sunny, CHILL, fun, relaxed feeling…

I’ve been listening to a lot of summertime, sunny, fun, happy music at the beach lately (LIFE IS GOOD) and I keep on coming back (haha) to this song! The other day, I gave my summer mix to a friend, and today when I was at the beach, he texted me asking specifically about this track. I then proceeded to listen to it on my iPod right then and there in the sun, and even the 100th time, it sounded SO GOOD!
I was in dire need of a summer mix to listen to in my car now that the weather is gorgeous and my windows are always rolled down. I made this the other day and I’m thrilled with the energy of it. A good summer mix can make you feel like you’re driving to the beach when you’re running errands or driving to work. BONUS: It’s a great mix for working out as well…

Another tune from Brett Dennen’s forthcoming album, Loverboy. He’s outright said he wanted to keep it light and simple with this album and just keep people dancing and you can definitely hear that. This one has such a fun feel to it…the music makes me think of the beach. The lyrics are quite simple and borderline elementary, but I think I’m deciding to just enjoy the sunshiny groove of it:
OK, I admit, I was definitely not sold on this tune at first… and I’m still not sure why in God’s name Brett Dennen would title his forthcoming album Loverboy… but I’ve grown to enjoy the fun beat and frantic singing on this track. It definitely makes me move… whether I want to or not! I’ll be interested to hear the rest of Loverboy and to see if it redeems itself from that awful title.
