“When U Love Somebody”

Eric Johnson used to play guitar for The Shins, but since 2001 he’s been putting out music with his band Fruit Bats. I’ve been a huge fan of the latest albums from this group, especially their 2009 release The Ruminant Band. But leave it to Pandora to introduce me to this song from the 2003 Fruit Bats album, Mouthfuls. There are just a few simple lyrics, but it’s an extremely strong track that I’ve been thinking about all day since I heard it.

“Marathon Men”

Four weeks ago today, the Boston Marathon bombings captured the nation’s attention. Local singer/songwriter Alex Karalekas was inspired to write this song after he heard about bombings. He recorded the tune here on Martha’s Vineyard at The Print Shop.

“Roots & Vine”

I had never heard of this Texas-based band until my boss added this tune into our rotation at mvy the other day. Now I can’t stop listening to the song, which has hints of Mumford & Sons and Zac Brown Band. NPR called their sound an “impossible-to-define stew of country, folk, rock and gospel”. Whatever it is, it sounds GREAT:
